Ethical considerations when implementing AI
Long before implementing AI technically, there are ethical considerations to be made. The risk to your company’s reputation from an ethical misstep, is arguably bigger than the risk of not being regulatory compliant. But where do you start? What are some of the possible pitfalls? Is there a framework to use? Should you have an AI Ethics board? Priya and HP will discuss some real life examples where AI implementations failed, even when the intentions and ethical considerations were made. Learn how AI implementation is so much more than a technical implementation.

TAIPY - Groupe Les Mousquetaires
Taipy - Bringing AI to the Business User - Retail Use Case: Cash Flow Management Groupe Les Mousquetaires
One of the biggest challenges that developers of Big Data and AI applications face is delivering a solution that can be used by businesses on a regular basis to drive decision-making. Groupe Les Mousquetaires, a leading European retail group, will showcase how they used Taipy, a development tool, to build a cash flow application that helps predict and manage stock.
The use of Taipy was central to the development of this AI application, as it allowed for fast development and provided a unique "what-if '' analysis feature through the use of scenarios, which was essential for user acceptance of the AI algorithms.
The high-speed development capabilities of Taipy facilitated seamless communication between data science teams and business users, enabling the finance department to automatically generate, script, and execute algorithms for cash-flow forecasting. The implementation of the CFM project with Taipy resulted in more active cash management, leading to gains by accurately identifying the best times and amounts to invest or borrow, as well as selecting the most suitable investment vehicles. This project generated a high return on investment, which was further increased by rising inflation.
In this talk, we will demonstrate how Taipy's low-code GUI component can be used to create visually appealing and interactive dashboards, as well as how Taipy Core can be utilized to efficiently manage complex data flows.

Hybrid AI applied to NLP
AI amplifies the reach of OCR to drive hyper automation
Going paperless and dealing with digital documents is often seen as getting onto the digitisation journey. Sorry to disappoint you, but capturing an image of a document and throwing the paper in the trash, is neither digitisation nor meaningful automation.
AI/ ML technologies around computer vision, Natural Language Processing and Deep Learning have gone fully mainstream and making a profound impact across our personal and professional lives. It is a truism that "OCR" impacts only 20% of documents with unstructured documents being largely out of reach. It is also a reality that humans communicate in ‘unstructured formats’ that are not easily amenable to traditional document extractors. As Yoda might say, “Real life is not, in a form, summarised”.
Enter CMR+ (Cognitive Machine Reading) the smart solution to processing documents with genuine intelligence and continuous learning. The platform vision follows the lead of RPA to enable citizen developer configure algorithms and business rules to read typical documents encountered daily including emails, invoices and long-form contract documents.
This technology reaches the parts of a process that OCR and RPA cannot.
Join our session as we explore how CMR+ emulates human’s speed-reading a document, finding nuggets of data embedded in paragraphs and enriching data for usage in downstream systems. The business impacts include driving new product innovation, 10x jump in productivity, improved customer service and high compliance.

The surprising ineffectiveness of modern generative AI for complex knowledge work and how to solve this industrial revolution. By Aleph Alpha
The abundance of information and knowledge in today's digital age has made it difficult for individuals to find accurate and reliable information. The next generation of AI, based on large language models, has the potential to aid knowledge workers, but it faces challenges in processing complex data and providing trustworthy information. Lumi, a conversational interface powered by Aleph Alpha's Luminous models, addresses these issues by referring to a knowledgebase and providing information to the user. By using an optimized search model, this allows for fast searches and content embeddings, providing a real-time solution for knowledge workers in need of accurate information.

AlphaWingman project introduction
Relatively recent news in Artificial Intelligence has shown this through Psybernetix's Alpha AI in 2015, up to DARPA's AlphaDogfight competition in 2020, in works ultimately exposing a confrontation between AI and the fighter pilot.
AlphaWingman is a French Air and Space Force innovation project. It aims to explore the use of the most recent technologies in AI. The approach in this project rather targets the search for performance in the duo: combat pilot and AI.
This workshop will introduce:
- The approach followed by the project, which relies on an eSport context to carry out its explorations.
- Some first achievements.
- Possible future areas of collaboration.
HUAWEI - Presentation of a concrete case of the use of Artificial Intelligence to fight against invasive species in aquatic environments
To prevent invasive pink salmon (Pacific salmon) from entering the norwegian fjords ecosystem and protect native wild Atlantic salmon from extinction and to improve river conservation efficiency Huawei has developed the world’s first AI-based automated salmon filtering system deployed in a natural river. It has proven to be effective in the field since full pilot implementation in June 2022. In 2021, Huawei Norway and Berlevåg Hunting and Fishing Association (BJFF) began working together to develop an automated, AI-powered fish-filtering system to address the issue. As a world first, the solution had to be designed from scratch. Huawei Norway and BJFF developed a fish-recognition algorithm based on tens of thousands of images collected from underwater cameras from late June to September 2021. The algorithm can identify Atlantic salmon and pink salmon with 90% accuracy. In June 2022, the first an AI-powered fish trap was deployed in Storelva river in Norway.
