- Dr. Ebtesam Almazrouei is an accomplished professional with a distinguished career in artificial intelligence (AI) and technology. She is widely recognized as a leader and visionary in AI. She has made significant contributions to AI research, development, and innovation, earning her a distinguished reputation in the industry. Her expertise and knowledge have led to the successful development of Falcon generative AI models, outperforming models from giant tech companies in 2023. She played an instrumental role in creating Falcon 40B, the Middle East's first homegrown, open-source large language model (LLM) in 2023. She later launched Falcon 180B, the world's most potent open AI model. Additionally, she led the development of NOOR, the first and largest Arabic LLM model, in 2022. Dr. Ebtesam Almazrouei leveraged the developed advanced technologies to create AI and tech startups through a commercialization arm. She empowered developers and companies to pursue multi-domain AI innovations and diversify the e-infrastructure and AI market worldwide. She established strategic partnerships, secured funding and sponsorship, and developed digital computing infrastructures. She also collaborated with customers to scale and validate customer-centric products and advance the technology readiness level. She is also actively involved in promoting sustainability, the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and AI for Good initiatives. Furthermore, Dr. Almazrouei is the founder and the general chair of Abu Dhabi AI Connect and holds the position of TPC chair in various IEEE international conferences. Dr. Almazrouei's contributions to the field have garnered international recognition. She was featured in the Leading AI Women in the World list in 2023, alongside other distinguished women in AI, and received the Global Leadership Women in Tech® MENA Award in the same year. Furthermore, Dr. Ebtesam Almazrouei is selected as one of the TOP 100 Speakers 2023 by WOMEN IN TECH Global MOVEMENT. Dr. Almazrouei plays a significant role in various organizations and advisory committees. She leads the big data expert subcommittee of the UAE Council for AI and Blockchain and is a member of the worldwide steering board of the Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF). Additionally, she is a member of the Science and Engineering Advisory Board at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD). Dr. Almazrouei is an accomplished tech professional, author, patent inventor, entrepreneur, and renowned speaker. She is known for delivering keynote speeches at prestigious summits and top-level tech and AI events such as the CogX Festival 2023 in London, UK, the AI Summit, the World AI Cannes Festival, AWS reinvent USA, and various tech summits. Dr. Almazrouei was invited by the UK Government to be part of the discussions of the first global AI Safety Summit in Bletchley, UK, in 2023. Dr. Ebtesam Almazrouei was previously the Executive Director, Acting Chief AI Researcher, and Founder of the Artificial Intelligence Cross-Center ( AICCU) at the Technology Innovation Institute. Under her leadership, Dr. Almazrouei founded the AI department and spearheaded AI's Strategic Planning and Development in TII. She established multiple teams dedicated to cutting-edge areas such as Computer Vision and Humanized Machines, AI Theory and Algorithms, Extreme Scale AI Platforms, Generative AI Applications, Connected Intelligent Systems and Data Analytics, and the building of the Supercomputer, enabling the training and execution of AI models at scale. Furthermore, Dr. Almazrouei played a crucial role in the Middle East in building the first open Multilingual and Arabic LLM models, including the renowned Falcon generative AI models and Noor model at TII. Before joining TII, she worked in the smart city and digital telecom industries, delivering advanced tech solutions for companies like BT, Etisalat, and KU. Her expertise spanned the Internet of Things (IoTs), autonomous vehicles and drones, wireless localization, intelligence systems, and 5G networks. Dr. Ebtesam is the first Emirati woman to hold a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence for Wireless Communication Engineering and Computer Science. She obtained her Ph.D. and MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Khalifa University of Science and Technology. She earned a BSc in Communication and Electrical Engineering from the United Arab Emirates University. Dr. Ebtesam Almazrouei's leadership, expertise, and commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology have made her a respected figure in the field. Her contributions have not only advanced the field but have also positioned her as a role model for aspiring professionals in the tech industry.
