Bruno Le Maire is a French writer and politician.He was born on 15 April 1969 in Neuilly-sur-Seine (Hauts-de-Seine, Greater Paris Region).He was appointed French Minister for the Economy in May 2017, then Minister for the Economy and Finance in June 2017, and Minister for the Economy, Finance and the Recovery in July 2020. He has served as Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty since July 2022.After studying at the École normale supérieure (1989), he was awarded his diploma in German studies (1990) and a master’s degree in literature from the Sorbonne University (1991). He successfully passed the modern literature “agrégation” competitive examination in 1992. He graduated from Sciences Po Paris in 1993 and was then admitted to the École nationale d’administration, where he studied between 1996 and 1998.He began his career as a diplomat. In 2002, he was appointed as adviser to Dominique De Villepin, French Minister of Foreign affairs. Bruno Le Maire remained his adviser when the latter was appointed Minister of the Interior, and when he became Prime Minister (as his adviser, then his chief of staff).In 2007, Bruno Le Maire was elected member of the French National Assembly.In 2008, he was appointed Minister of State for European Affairs before becoming Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries, Rural Affairs and Spatial Planning in 2009, a position he held until May 2012At the same time as his national responsibilities, Bruno Le Maire was elected as Regional Councillor for Normandy in 2010.He was re-elected member of the National Assembly in 2012.In November 2014, he was candidate to become the right-wing UMP party’s next president. He took part in the party’s primary to be its candidate for the 2017 French presidential election.Bruno Le Maire was re-elected member of the National Assembly in 2017.In 2022, he decided to not run again as member of the National Assembly.
